Pierre Gelin

Located in the quiet village of Fixin on the northern end of the Cote de Nuits, Domaine Pierre Gelin is family-owned and currently in the hands of third-generation winemaker, Pierre Emmanuel Gelin.
In Fixin, the terroir is composed of very dense clay that gives a rustic structure to the wines. The wines mature in oak barrels from 20 to 24 months to give it a light woody note. The wines are then bottled on the estate and are only released after a year or two in the cellars. They are much more masculine, wines that require aging to reveal their true expressions.
It is true that you can often see that the style of the wines greatly corresponds to the character of the winemaker. “I am naturally more reserved and discreet. My father was as well, and we love finesse, elegance and purity,” says Pierre Emmanuel.
The domaine follows the principles of organic farming as closely as possible, while tending to the vines by hand. Even though it is painstakingly time consuming and requires tremendous effort, you can taste the winemaker’s honesty in his pure and supple wines that are elegant but flavourful in style!
“While Gelin possesses an enviable parcel of the Clos de Bèze—and produces a fine example—the insiders’ choice here is the excellent Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur.”
– Dr William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
