Penfolds G5 & Grange 2017
Lights, camera action – a star is born from the acclaimed Grange DNA. Meet Penfolds G5, arguably the world’s most collectible wine from the famed Australian winery.
Only 2,200 numbered bottles of G5 are made available, accompanied by a certificate signed by chief winemaker Peter Gago. Not only is this extremely rare and collectible wine made from five superb vintages of Grange, it has also won five perfect scores from wine leaders including James Suckling.
Sometimes, the best things we have come from madness, as Plato said. All past Penfolds Grange vintages used in the G5 come from Penfolds’ museum bottles – the winemaking team essentially uncorked mint condition bottles to conduct a mad scientist-style mixing experiment.
Imagine how many precious drops were used up in the experiment to bring you the greatest finale of the G series!
The newly released flagship wine Grange Bin 95 2017 is also one with the X factor. Only the 7th Grange to be made from 100% shiraz, this wine is intense with layers of dark berry, smoky earthiness and exotic spices. Yet, its alcohol sweetness is impeccably balanced with assertive tannins and fruit versus savoury characters.
Coinciding nicely with the 70th anniversary of Grange, these are wines that deserve a place in history. Only 3 numbered Penfolds G5 are available!
