Wine rating is a score assigned by one or more wine critics to a wine tasted as a summary of evaluation of that wine.
Mention “Bordeaux“, and red wines will be on the tip of everyone’s tongue. While Bordeaux is known for its red, we can all agree that its success has been premised on one extraordinary factor: terroir. In essence, Bordeaux is, really, not the “King of Red”, but the “King of Terroir“.
There are select parcels in Bordeaux that work remarkably well for white grapes, where the “guardians” of terroir would cringe to use these soils for red grapes. Thus, these oenologists came up with an idea – matchmaking Sauvignon Blanc with Semillon. Like James Suckling said, “let me just say, whoever came up with this marriage is plain genius!”
Sauvignon Blanc alone gives refreshing acidity and intensely aromatic flavours of citrus and herbs. Semillon then lovingly embraces Sauvignon Blanc with its structure, giving it a creamy, rounded mouthfeel and warmer notes of peach and nuts. And they lived happily ever after.
Bordeaux whites are a very worthwhile pursuit too; many are of excellent quality and remarkable value. Today, we present to you the magical whites from well-known French estates: Haut Brion, Smith Haut Lafitte, Domaine de Chevalier, Pape Clement and more!
